Ingredients

Main Supplies

  • 10 pieces Coffee filters Easy to find at grocery stores
  • 2-3 drops Food coloring or water-based dye Substitute options produce lovely effects
  • 1 piece A shallow dish or bowl For dyeing
  • 1 cup Water Refreshing and essential
  • 1 piece Scissors Sharp enough to cut through multiple layers
  • 1 piece Pipe cleaner or floral wire To stem your flowers
  • optional as desired Glitter or sequins For a touch of sparkle
  • optional 1 Small vase or container To display your blooms

Instructions

Preparing the Dye

  • Begin by pouring a small amount of water into your shallow dish. Add a few drops of food coloring or dye to the water, creating a soft, swirling mixture that feels inviting to the eye.

Dyeing the Filters

  • Take a stack of coffee filters and gently dip them into the colored water. Make sure each filter absorbs the dye fully for a rich color.
  • Once properly dyed, lift the filters from the water, letting any excess liquid drip back into the bowl. The color will deepen as they dry.
  • Lay the wet filters flat on paper towels to dry completely. As they dry, they will curl slightly, creating natural shapes.

Shaping the Flowers

  • Once dry, stack several filters together. Trim the edges of the filters to create rounded or jagged shapes, depending on your desired flower aesthetic.
  • Gently pinch the center of the stack and twist it to form a flower shape. Use a pipe cleaner or floral wire to secure the center, wrapping it around several times.
  • Fluff the petals gently to create dimension. Embrace the softness of the petals as they open up around the center.
  • If you want to add sparkle, sprinkle a touch of glitter or sequins on the outer edges of the petals before setting them aside.

Admiring Your Creation

  • Take a step back and admire your creations, feeling a sense of accomplishment and tranquility.

Notes

Store your Coffee Filter Flowers in a cool, dry place in a simple box or cloth bag to preserve their delicate beauty. You can reshape petals as needed and use steam from boiling water to refresh their form. Consider updating their look with new dye or varying colors.
