Color-Changing Milk

Ingredients

- 1 cup Whole milk (or semi-skimmed)
- various colors Food coloring Different colors for better effect
- 1 tbsp Liquid dish soap This triggers the color change
- 1 shallow dish Shallow dish or plate To hold the milk
- 1 pcs Cotton swabs or toothpicks For mixing with dish soap

Instructions
Setup the Experiment
- Pour enough whole milk into the shallow dish to cover the bottom.
- Using different colors of food coloring, drop small dots in various places on the milk’s surface. Observe how they rest on the milk without mixing initially.
Create the Colorful Reaction
- Dip a cotton swab or a toothpick into the dish soap to trigger the color change.
- Gently touch the tip of the soapy swab to the surface of the milk in the area where you placed the food coloring.
Observe the Magic
- Watch as the soap touches the milk, breaking the surface tension and causing the food coloring to swirl and mix dramatically.
