Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 cup Whole milk (or semi-skimmed)
  • various colors Food coloring Different colors for better effect
  • 1 tbsp Liquid dish soap This triggers the color change
  • 1 shallow dish Shallow dish or plate To hold the milk
  • 1 pcs Cotton swabs or toothpicks For mixing with dish soap
  • optional Glitter For added sparkle

Instructions
 

Setup the Experiment

  • Pour enough whole milk into the shallow dish to cover the bottom.
  • Using different colors of food coloring, drop small dots in various places on the milk’s surface. Observe how they rest on the milk without mixing initially.

Create the Colorful Reaction

  • Dip a cotton swab or a toothpick into the dish soap to trigger the color change.
  • Gently touch the tip of the soapy swab to the surface of the milk in the area where you placed the food coloring.

Observe the Magic

  • Watch as the soap touches the milk, breaking the surface tension and causing the food coloring to swirl and mix dramatically.

Notes
