Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 cup Uncooked white rice Use any type of uncooked white rice.
  • 5-10 drops Food coloring or liquid watercolors Adjust based on desired color intensity.
  • 1 package Resealable plastic bags Bags can be substituted with bowls.
  • 1 sheet Baking sheet For drying the colored rice.
  • 1 sheet Parchment paper Optional, to avoid mess on the baking sheet.
  • few drops Essential oils Optional, for adding fragrance.

Preparation

  • Ensure your workspace is clean and covered if necessary. Use parchment paper to avoid any mess.

Coloring the Rice

  • In a resealable plastic bag, add 1 cup of uncooked rice.
  • Drop in 5-10 drops of food coloring or a splash of liquid watercolor.
  • Seal the bag and shake vigorously! Feel the rice moving and watch as it absorbs the color.

Drying the Rice

  • Spread your colored rice evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Preheat your oven to a low setting (around 200°F or 93°C) and place the baking sheet inside for about 10-15 minutes to set the color and dry the rice quicker.

Cooling and Storing

  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the rice cool completely.
  • Store your colored rice in airtight containers until you are ready to use it in your craft projects.

Notes

Customize colors by mixing or adding glitter. You may also add essential oils for fragrance. Experiment with different grains or pasta for variety.
