Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 medium to large Fresh apples Choose firm apples for best results.
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Corn syrup
  • Food coloring (various colors) Use different colors for a vibrant look.
  • 1 package Cotton candy Store-bought or homemade is fine.

Tools and Miscellaneous

  • 1 Candy thermometer For measuring the hardness of the candy.
  • 8 Stickers or wooden sticks For apple handles.
  • 1 Baking sheet Lined with parchment paper.
  • Optional toppings (sprinkles, edible glitter, etc.) For additional decoration.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash the apples thoroughly to remove any wax.
  • Insert wooden sticks into the center of each apple, about halfway in.

Candy Coating

  • In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, and corn syrup.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Attach your candy thermometer and let the mixture boil without stirring. Watch for it to reach the hard crack stage (300°F or 149°C).

Coloring and Coating

  • Remove the pan from heat. Divide the hot candy into separate bowls if using multiple colors.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and stir gently to combine.
  • Dip each apple into the colored candy mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.
  • Rotate the apple to allow excess candy to drip off.
  • Place the coated apples on the prepared baking sheet.

Adding Cotton Candy

  • Once the candy coating has set slightly (but is not completely hard), gently press cotton candy onto the top of each apple.
  • Allow the apples to cool completely until the candy is hard.

Notes

Store candy apples in a cool, dry place in a single layer to maintain texture. Avoid refrigeration, as it can cause the candy to sweat. For best texture, make them the same day you plan to serve.
