Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups Water For creating the solution.
  • 1 cup Epsom salt or sugar Epsom salt typically yields better crystal structures.
  • few drops Food coloring For coloring the rocks.
  • Small clean rocks (smooth beach stones or river rocks) Choose smooth and clean rocks.

Equipment

  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Spoon For stirring the solution.
  • 1 Baking sheet For drying the rocks.
  • 1 Parchment paper To line the baking sheet.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, heat 2 cups of water on low heat.
  • Gradually add 1 cup of Epsom salt (or sugar), stirring continuously until fully dissolved.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to reach the desired hue.

Soaking the Rocks

  • Place your clean rocks in the saucepan.
  • Allow them to soak in the solution for about 30 minutes.

Crystallizing the Rocks

  • Carefully remove the rocks from the solution.
  • Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and leave space between each rock.
  • Pour any remaining solution over the rocks.

Drying

  • Let the rocks dry at room temperature for 24 hours.
  • You’ll notice crystal formations beginning to develop on the surface as they dry.

Displaying

  • Once completely dry, arrange your colorful crystallized rocks in a garden, vase, or decorative bowl.

Notes

Swap materials for variations such as using different types of rocks, mixing food colors, or adding glitter for extra sparkle. Ensure adult supervision if children participate in the activity.
