Materials

  • Crayons pieces old or new crayons Use standard wax crayons or oil pastels for different effects.
  • 1 sheet Wax paper or parchment paper Necessary for the melting process.
  • 1 piece Heart-shaped cookie cutter or stencil To create the heart shape.
  • 1 iron Iron Used to melt the crayons.
  • 1 thin cloth Thin cloth or towel Protects surface when ironing.
  • 1 pair Scissors For cutting out the heart shapes.
  • 1 piece String or ribbon Optional, for hanging the suncatcher.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Peel the paper wrappers off the crayons.
  • Chop the crayons into small pieces, about 1 inch long.

Create Your Design

  • Lay out a sheet of wax or parchment paper on a flat surface.
  • Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter or stencil to guide the placement of crayon pieces.

Assemble the Crayon Pieces

  • Arrange the crayon pieces within the heart shape, mixing and matching colors as desired.

Melt the Crayons

  • Cover the design with another sheet of wax paper.
  • Preheat your iron on a low setting and place a thin cloth or towel between the iron and wax paper.
  • Gently press the iron over the area to melt the crayons and watch the colors swirl.

Cut Out the Hearts

  • Allow the melted crayon piece to cool completely.
  • Carefully cut around the heart shape to create your suncatcher.

Hang and Display

  • Punch a hole at the top of the heart and thread a string or ribbon through it if desired.

Notes

Experiment with colors and shapes! Consider adding glitter for extra sparkle, or using different cookie cutter shapes.
