  • 1 sheet Wax paper
  • 1 iron Iron For melting crayon pieces.
  • 1 pair Scissors For cutting the shapes.
  • 1 cookie cutter Cookie cutter (star shape) Can experiment with other shapes like hearts or circles.
  • 2 sheets Parchment paper To protect during ironing.
  • 1 flat surface A flat surface (like a cutting board) Use for your crafting area.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by unwrapping your crayons. Choose colors you love to see together.
  • Use a sharpener or a knife to shave crayon pieces onto a sheet of wax paper. Aim for small bits as they will melt better.

Assembly

  • Once you have a good amount of shavings, fold the wax paper in half, keeping the shavings inside.

Melting

  • Place the folded wax paper between two sheets of parchment paper.
  • Gently iron on low heat to melt the crayon shavings. Keep the iron moving to avoid burning the paper. You’ll see colorful swirls emerging!

Cutting

  • Let the melted crayon cool slightly before unfolding.
  • Use your star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out star shapes from the melted crayon art.

Finishing

  • Use a string or a suction cup to hang your star sun catchers by a window. Watch as sunlight creates a rainbow of colors dancing in your space!

Notes

Experiment with different crayon combinations for unique effects. For a thicker sun catcher, layer multiple sheets of wax paper. Use a textured surface (like a dishcloth) when melting for unique designs.
