Ingredients
  

Craft Materials

  • 5 pieces Crayons (various colors) Use any brand; consider metallic or glitter crayons for sparkle.
  • 2 sheets Wax paper
  • 1 sheet Parchment paper For heat sealing.
  • 1 unit Iron Adult supervision required.
  • 1 unit Scissors
  • 1 unit Star-shaped cookie cutters or templates Can use other shapes too.
  • 1 length Ribbon or string for hanging

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Cover your workstation with old newspapers to catch any crayon shards.
  • Gather all the materials listed above.

Crayon Preparation

  • Peel the wrappers off the crayons and break them into small pieces (about 1-inch).
  • Feel the texture of the crayons as you break them; the crunch is satisfying!

Arrange on Wax Paper

  • Place a sheet of wax paper on your workspace.
  • Spread your broken crayon pieces on one half of the wax paper.
  • Experiment with color combinations to create unique designs.

Heat Sealing

  • Fold the wax paper over the crayon pieces.
  • Place a sheet of parchment paper on top.
  • Using the iron on a low setting, gently press down for 10-15 seconds.
  • Carefully lift the parchment paper to check the melting progress.

Shape Cutting

  • Once the crayon wax has melted and cooled slightly, unfold the wax paper.
  • Use star-shaped cookie cutters or templates to cut out star shapes from the melted crayon sheets.

Adding String

  • Use a small hole punch to make a hole at the top of each star.
  • Cut lengths of ribbon or string and thread through the holes for hanging.

Notes

Display sun catchers in windows that get direct sunlight. Consider creating a themed mobile with different shapes.
