Materials

  • various colors Old crayons Different colors enhance the final look.
  • 1 set Silicone star-shaped molds Ensure they are suitable for oven use.
  • 1 unit Oven or toaster oven For melting the crayons.
  • 1 sheet Parchment paper To line the molds if desired.
  • 1 knife Sharp knife For adults to cut the crayons.
  • 1 pair Oven mitts To safely handle hot molds.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven or toaster oven to 250°F (120°C).
  • Unwrap the old crayons and break them into small pieces. Sort by color if desired for a multi-colored effect.
  • Place the crayon pieces into the silicone star molds, filling each mold generously, but not overflowing.

Baking

  • Carefully place the mold in the preheated oven.
  • Bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the crayons are fully melted. Keep an eye on them; you want them melted, not bubbling!

Cooling

  • Using oven mitts, remove the molds from the oven.
  • Let the melted crayons sit at room temperature until fully cooled and hardened, about 30 minutes.
  • Gently pop the star sun catchers out of the molds.

Notes

Consider adding glitter for extra sparkle and hang them in sunnier spots for the best visual effects. Remember to maintain safety when using sharp tools and heat.
