Ingredients

Materials

  • 200 yards Worsted weight cotton yarn Approximately 200 yards
  • 1 each Crochet hook (size 7/4.5mm)
  • 1 each Scissors
  • 1 each Yarn needle
  • 1 each Stitch marker (optional)
  • 1 each Measuring tape
  • 1 each Decorative embellishments (buttons, charms, etc.) Optional

Instructions

Crocheting the Basket

  • Start with a Magic Circle. Create a magic circle and secure it with a slip knot. This forms the center of your basket.
  • Crochet the Base. Row 1: Work 6 single crochet (sc) into the magic circle. Row 2: Increase to 12 (2 sc in each stitch of the previous row). Row 3: Increase to 18 (1 sc in first stitch, 2 sc in next). Continue increasing until you reach your desired diameter.
  • Build the Walls. Switch to working in a continuous spiral. Do not increase any stitches; simply crochet in the round to form the walls. Use a stitch marker to track the beginning of each round if desired.
  • Finish Your Basket. After reaching the desired height, finish with a slip stitch. Cut the yarn and weave in loose ends using a yarn needle.
  • Customize. Add decorative embellishments or switch yarn colors for a unique look.

Notes

Experiment with different yarn types, shapes, stitch patterns, and sizes. Combine colors or yarn textures for a fun, mixed-media look. Craft a matching set of baskets in different sizes for cohesive decor. Use leather or fabric for handles if you want an extra design element.
