- 1 unit Small heatproof container Use something like a glass jar or cup.
- 1 unit Spoon For stirring the solution.
- few drops Food coloring (optional) For coloring the crystals.
Instructions
Preparation
- Shape the Pipe Cleaner: Take two pipe cleaners and twist them together to form a heart shape, bending the ends to secure the shape and create a loop at the top.
- Prepare the Borax Solution: In a pot, bring about 1 cup of water to a boil. Slowly mix in approximately 3 tablespoons of borax, stirring until it dissolves completely. For colored crystals, add a few drops of food coloring.
Crystallization
- Pour the Borax Solution: Carefully pour the borax solution into your heatproof container, ensuring there is enough to submerge the heart.
- Add the Heart: Lower the pipe cleaner heart into the solution, using a spoon to ensure it remains submerged and does not touch the sides or bottom of the container.
- Let it Crystalize: Place the container in a safe, undisturbed area. Crystals will start forming within a few hours, but for best results, leave it overnight.
- Remove and Rinse: Carefully remove the heart from the solution after the waiting period. Rinse under warm water to remove any loose borax and let it dry.
Notes
Add glitter to the heart before submerging it for added glamour. Try different shapes like stars or flowers for varied designs. Experiment with food coloring for a more vibrant crystal appearance.
