Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 3-4 pieces Clean eggshells, halved and washed
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Borax
  • drops Food coloring (green or desired color)
  • 1 small container or jar to hold the eggshells
  • 1 spoon for stirring
  • 1 toothpick for carefully placing the eggshells

Preparation

  • Carefully rinse the empty eggshells to remove any leftover egg residue.
  • Allow them to dry completely.

Making the Crystal Solution

  • In a small pot, heat 1 cup of water on the stove until it begins to boil.
  • Stir in 1 cup of borax until it dissolves completely.
  • Add several drops of food coloring to give the solution a vibrant hue.

Creating Your Crystal Display

  • Place the dried eggshell halves upright in a small container or jar.
  • Slowly pour the borax solution into the container, ensuring the solution fully immerses the shells.
  • Use a spoon to adjust the positioning of the shells if they tilt.

Waiting for Crystals to Form

  • Allow the container to sit undisturbed in a cool place for 24 hours.
  • Check periodically to see the crystals beginning to form inside the shells.

Removing and Displaying

  • After 24 hours, gently remove the eggshells from the solution using a toothpick.
  • Pat them dry carefully, and let them continue to dry on a paper towel.
  • Display your stunning crystal eggshells!

Notes

Customize Colors with different food coloring for a variety of crystal colors. Change the Size by varying the amount of borax for larger or smaller crystals. Experiment with Shapes using different forms like plastic molds. Incorporate glitter into the solution for added sparkle.
