Crystal Eggshells
Create stunning crystal decorations from ordinary eggshells with this fun and educational craft project suitable for all ages.
Ingredients
Materials for Crystallization
- 4 pieces Eggs (for shells) Use any type of eggshell, such as duck or quail eggs, for unique shapes and sizes.
- 1 cup Hot water Be cautious not to touch it directly.
- 2-3 tablespoons Borax Can be substituted with Epsom salts or sugar, though crystal quality may vary.
- as needed drops Food coloring (optional) Use to create vibrant crystals.
Tools and Supplies
- 1 small bowl For mixing the crystal solution.
- 1 spoon spoon For stirring the Borax solution.

Instructions
Preparing the Eggshells
- Carefully poke a small hole at both ends of the egg. Blow gently to release the contents, or use a spoon to scoop them out.
- Rinse the eggshells and let them dry thoroughly.
- Place the clean eggshells upright in a carton so they can stand securely.
Making the Crystal Solution
- In a small bowl, pour hot water.
- Stir in 2-3 tablespoons of Borax until it fully dissolves. The solution will become cloudy at first.
- If desired, mix in a few drops of food coloring to create vibrant crystals for your shells.
Creating the Crystals
- Carefully fill each eggshell with the Borax solution, leaving a little space at the top.
- Place the eggshells somewhere safe and undisturbed where they can sit for 24-48 hours.
- Observe the crystals forming on the eggshells.
- Gently remove the eggshells and rinse with water to remove any excess Borax. Let them dry completely.
Notes
Experiment with different color combinations for a tie-dye effect by dipping eggshells into different solutions. Use larger or smaller eggs for various decorative sizes. Consider giving them as gifts or creating a spring-themed centerpiece.
