Crystal Gems in Eggshells

Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 dozen Clean eggshells (preferably halved) Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • 3 tablespoons Borax Found in the laundry aisle.
  • 1 cup Water Boiling for the solution.
  • Food coloring (optional) For coloring the crystals.
  • 1 small pot Small pot or saucepan For boiling water.
  • 1 Stirring stick or spoon For mixing the solution.
  • 1 Bowl for eggshells To arrange the eggshells.
  • Baking tray (optional for drying) To place the eggshells.

Instructions
 

Preparing the Eggshells

  • Rinse the eggshells thoroughly to remove any residue, and let them dry.
  • Place the cleaned shells upright in a bowl or on a baking tray.

Making the Borax Solution

  • In a small pot, bring 1 cup of water to a boil.
  • Stir in 3 tablespoons of borax until fully dissolved.
  • If desired, add drops of food coloring to the solution and stir.

Pouring the Solution

  • Carefully pour the borax solution into each eggshell, filling them about halfway.
  • Use caution to avoid overspilling; ensure the mixture stays within the shell.

Letting Crystals Grow

  • Allow the filled eggshells to cool and the solution to sit undisturbed in a warm place overnight.
  • Check back in 24 hours to observe the beautiful gems forming.

Notes

Experiment with different colors of food coloring for unique crystal gems. Use small cups or bowls for larger crystals, and consider adding glitter for extra sparkle!
