Ingredients

For the Crystal Solution

  • 1 cup water Use clean water
  • 3 cups sugar or salt Sugar for regular crystals; use salt for different types

For Assembly

  • 1 heat-resistant pan To heat the water
  • 1 stirring spoon To mix the solution
  • 1 clean glass jar For growing the crystals
  • 1 string or cotton thread For suspending in the solution
  • 1 pencil or stick To hold the string in place
  • a few drops food coloring (optional) To add color to the crystals

Instructions

Preparation of Solution

  • Heat the water in a heat-resistant pan until it’s almost boiling.
  • Gradually add 3 cups of sugar (or salt) to the hot water, stirring continuously until fully dissolved.

Prepare the Jar

  • Allow the sugar solution to cool to room temperature.
  • Pour the solution into a clean glass jar, leaving some space at the top.

Suspend the String

  • Dip one end of the string into the solution, then remove and let it dry for a few minutes.
  • Tie the dry end of the string to the pencil or stick, and place the pencil across the top of the jar, so the string hangs down into the solution without touching the bottom.

Wait for Growth

  • Place the jar in a stable, undisturbed area that is cool and dry.
  • Observe your crystals forming along the string over the next few days to weeks.
  • Be patient; let the crystals grow to your desired size before removing them.

Notes

You can add a few drops of food coloring for colorful crystals. Experiment with varying materials like Epsom salt or borax for different shapes. Increase jar size and solution for larger crystals.
