Instructions

Prepare the Solution

  • Boil some water until it’s steaming hot.
  • In a bowl, combine the hot water with Epsom salt or borax, using a ratio of about 3 tablespoons of salt to 1 cup of water. Stir vigorously until fully dissolved.

Add Color

  • Add a few drops of your chosen food coloring to the solution and stir until the color is evenly distributed.

Prepare the Jar

  • Place your tree-shaped cutouts or pipe cleaners on the string or stick. Dip them into the colored solution, then let any excess drip off.

Assemble the Jar

  • Pour the prepared solution into each glass jar, ensuring it’s deep enough to suspend the trees.
  • Carefully place your decorated trees into the jars, securing them with the string/sticks, ensuring they don’t touch the bottom.

Let Crystals Grow

  • Place the jars in a cool, undisturbed area. Crystals will begin to form in a few hours but allow 24 hours for the best results.

Display Your Creations

  • Once the crystals have formed, display your jars prominently as festive decor.

Notes

Experiment with multiple colors in one jar for a rainbow effect. Adjust tree sizes with different cutouts for varying dimensions. Consider trying different types of salts for unique crystal effects.
