Ingredients
  

Materials Needed

  • 1 clean glass jar clean glass jar or container Ensure it’s heatproof.
  • 1 package pipe cleaners (preferably white) For shaping your word.
  • 3 cups boiling water To dissolve Borax.
  • 1 cup Borax Available at most grocery stores.
  • optional as desired food coloring For colored crystals.
  • 1 stick wooden stick or pencil For suspension.
  • 1 bowl bowl or spoon for mixing To mix the Borax solution.

Instructions
 

Preparing the Pipe Cleaners

  • Take the pipe cleaners and twist them together to form the initials or word you want to crystallize.
  • Bend the top of your design into a loop to create a suspension hook that attaches to the wooden stick.

Making the Borax Solution

  • Boil enough water to completely dissolve the Borax (about 3 cups).
  • Add approximately 1 cup of Borax to the boiling water, stirring until fully dissolved. Ensure the solution feels saturated.
  • If desired, add a few drops of food coloring for colored crystals.

Combining Your Creations

  • Dip the pipe cleaner into the solution briefly, then suspend it in the jar using the wooden stick, ensuring it doesn’t touch the sides or bottom.
  • Place the jar in a cool, quiet spot and allow it to sit undisturbed for 24-48 hours.

Observing the Magic

  • After a day or two, check the crystals formed.
  • Once satisfied with the growth, carefully remove your creation and let it dry on a paper towel.

Notes

Experiment with different colors, shapes, and string types for unique results. Crystals can take 24-48 hours to form.
