Ingredients
Crystal Growing Solution
- 1 cup water Should be heated to a boil.
- 3 cups sugar Added gradually to the boiling water to create a supersaturated solution.
Additional Supplies
- 1 piece heat-safe container For holding the sugar solution.
- 1 piece string or fishing line Used to suspend the crystals.
- 1 piece wooden stick or pencil To tie the string onto.
- to taste food coloring (optional) For coloring the crystals.
- 1 piece cooking pot To boil the water and dissolve sugar.
- 1 piece stirring spoon For stirring the sugar solution.
- 1 roll paper towels For drying the crystals after removal.
Instructions
Preparation
- In a pot, bring 1 cup of water to a boil on the stovetop.
- Gradually add 3 cups of sugar while stirring constantly until it completely dissolves to create a supersaturated solution.
Add Color (Optional)
- If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the solution and stir well.
Set Up the Decoration
- Tie one end of the string to a pencil or wooden stick.
- Lower the string into the sugar solution, ensuring it doesn’t touch the sides or bottom of the container.
Allow Crystals to Grow
- Set the container in a cool, undisturbed location.
- Monitor the crystals as they grow over the next few days to your desired size.
Finishing Touches
- Once crystals have reached the desired size, gently remove the string and let it dry on paper towels.

Notes
You can experiment with different liquids like borax or Epsom salts for unique crystal formations. Use different containers or molds to create various shapes and layer different colors of food coloring for a rainbow effect.
