Ingredients
  

Materials Needed

  • 1 cup borax Found in the laundry aisle
  • 2 cups water Hot but not boiling water
  • 1 count heat-safe container Like a glass jar or bowl
  • 1 count pipe cleaners White or colored for the snowman
  • 1 count string For suspension
  • 1 count pencil or stick To hold the snowman in place
  • optional count small foam balls or googly eyes For decoration

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Shape the pipe cleaners into a snowman outline: one for the body, one for the head, and additional shapes for arms or accessories.
  • Heat 2 cups of water in a pot until it’s almost boiling.
  • Add in 1 cup of borax slowly while stirring to ensure it dissolves completely.

Suspension

  • Attach a string to the top of the snowman’s head and tie the other end to a pencil or stick.
  • Rest the pencil or stick across the top of the container, allowing the snowman to hang in the borax solution.

Waiting Period

  • Set aside the jar in a safe location for 24 hours and wait for the crystals to form.

Reveal

  • After 24 hours, carefully remove the snowman from the solution and gently rinse to remove excess borax.
  • Marvel at the beautiful crystal formations that have formed.

Notes

Customize your snowman with different colored pipe cleaners, glitter, or sequins. You can also create a winter scene with additional crafts like paper snowflakes or pinecone trees.
