Ingredients

Materials

  • 1 pack Clear plastic or glass ornament balls
  • 3 tablespoons Borax powder (found in the laundry aisle)
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 5 pieces Pipe cleaners (white or colored for accessories)
  • 1 piece String or ribbon for hanging
  • to taste Optional: googly eyes, buttons, fabric for scarves, and markers for faces

Instructions

Create the Snowman Shape

  • Twist pipe cleaners into a snowman shape, with one for the body and two for the arms.
  • Ensure the segments are tightly twisted to hold their form.

Make the Crystal Solution

  • In a heat-resistant container, mix 3 tablespoons of borax per cup of boiling water.
  • Stir well until the borax fully dissolves in the water, observing the mixture become clear.

Submerge the Snowman

  • Carefully lower your snowman shape into the borax solution.
  • Allow it to sit for 6-10 hours, untouched, to let crystals form.

Remove and Dry

  • After the time has passed, remove your snowman from the solution.
  • Gently rinse the ornament in clean water to remove any excess borax.
  • Place it on a paper towel to dry completely.

Add Finishing Touches

  • Use googly eyes, buttons, and fabric for scarves to give your snowman character.
  • Secure a string or ribbon on top for hanging.

Notes

Use colored pipe cleaners or add food coloring for vibrant colors. Make various sizes for a snowman family. Supervise children when working with boiling water.
