Ingredients
Craft Materials
- 1 cup Borax A cleaning agent that helps form crystals.
- 3 cups Water Boiling water.
- 1 package Clear glass or plastic ornaments Used as a base for forming crystals.
- as needed Pipe cleaners In desired shapes for creating the star forms.
- as needed Food coloring Optional; for adding color to the crystals.
- Mixing bowl For combining Borax and water.
- Spoon For stirring the solution.
- String or ribbon For hanging the ornaments.
Instructions
Preparing the Solution
- Boil the water in a pot or kettle.
- Gradually stir in the Borax into the boiling water until fully dissolved.
Creating the Ornaments
- Twist the pipe cleaners into star shapes or any desired form.
- Tie a string to the top of your shape for hanging later.
Setting Up
- Place your pipe cleaner shape inside the ornament.
- If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the Borax solution for a colored effect.
Forming Crystals
- Carefully pour the Borax solution into the ornament until fully submerged.
- Allow the ornament to sit undisturbed for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- After the time has passed, take out the ornament, rinse it under cool water, and let it dry.
Notes
Experiment with different food coloring combinations, use cookie cutters for unique shapes, and increase the Borax amount for larger ornaments. Store completed ornaments in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
