  • 1 container Container (glass or plastic) To hold the Borax solution.
  • 1 length String or fishing line For suspending the tree.
  • 1 scissors Scissors To cut the string.
  • 1 spoon Spoon for stirring To mix the Borax solution.
  • optional Food coloring or glitter For adding extra color and sparkle.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Twist several pipe cleaners together to form the branches of your tree.
  • Bend the branches to give your tree a natural look.

Create the Borax Solution

  • In a pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  • Slowly add 1 cup of Borax powder while stirring until fully dissolved.
  • If desired, add a few drops of food coloring for a more vibrant tree.

Set Up the Tree

  • Tie string to the top of your pipe cleaner shape and suspend it in a container filled with the Borax solution, ensuring it does not touch the bottom.
  • Use a pencil or stick to keep the string taut if necessary.

Crystallization Process

  • Leave the tree in the solution undisturbed for several hours or overnight. Crystals will start to form as the solution cools.
  • Observe the growth of crystals; they will appear as a white, sparkly coating.

Final Touches

  • Once you’re satisfied with the crystallization, carefully remove your crystal tree and let it dry on a paper towel.
  • Display your beautiful creation wherever you like.

Notes

Swap materials, use different types of sugar or salt if you don't have Borax, or combine different food colors for a multi-colored tree. Adding glitter will enhance the sparkle!
