Preparation

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.

Combine Ingredients

  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into two portions. Add food coloring to each portion to achieve desired colors.

Shape the Cookies

  • Roll out colored dough to about ¼ inch thickness.
  • Use a flip flop cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Bake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden.
  • Let cookies cool completely on the baking sheet.

Decorate

  • Once cookies are cool, use royal icing to pipe designs on each flip flop.
