  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract You can also use almond or lemon extract for flavor variations.

Decorating Ingredients

  • Food coloring (various colors) To achieve desired colors for icing.
  • Royal icing mix
  • Sprinkles (optional) For added decoration.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  • Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until a dough forms.

Chill the Dough

  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap.
  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to make it easier to roll out.

Roll & Cut

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Flour your surface and roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick.
  • Use the flip flop cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on a lined baking sheet.

Bake

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden.
  • Let them cool on a wire rack.

Decorate

  • Prepare royal icing according to package instructions and separate into bowls.
  • Add food coloring to achieve desired colors.
  • Transfer icing to piping bags and carefully decorate each cookie with designs.
  • Add sprinkles for an extra touch if desired.

Notes

Store decorated cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. You can prepare the dough ahead of time and freeze it for up to 3 months.
