  • 1 cup dried corn kernels You can use other small items for variation.
  • as needed cups water Fill the container halfway.
  • 1 unit clear glass or container Choose a tall container for best results.
  • optional to taste baking soda For a fun twist.
  • optional to taste vinegar For added fizz.
  • 1 unit spoon For stirring.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Choose your glass or clear container: Select one that’s tall enough to allow the corn kernels to float.
  • Add water: Pour in enough water to fill the container halfway. Observe the clarity of the water.
  • Spoon in the corn: Gently add the dried corn kernels to the water. Observe how they sink to the bottom.

The Dancing Action

  • If using baking soda, sprinkle a small amount over the corn.
  • Add a splash of vinegar to the water and watch as the reaction creates bubbles that cause the corn to dance.

Observation

  • Take a moment to enjoy the sight of the dancing corn and discuss with the kids what is happening.

Notes

To add food coloring for a visually stunning effect. Substitute other small items like marbles for variety. Decorate the container for seasonal themes.
