Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 cup White rice Clean, uncooked white rice.
  • 1-2 teaspoons Baking soda Adjust according to the desired reaction.
  • 1/2 cup Vinegar White vinegar works best.
  • enough water Water Enough to cover the rice.
  • optional Food coloring For a vibrant effect.
  • 1 spoon Spoon for stirring Used to mix the ingredients.
  • 1 clear glass or bowl Clear glass or bowl For setting up the experiment.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Measure 1 cup of clean, uncooked white rice.
  • Rinse the rice under cool water until the water runs clear.

Set Up the Experiment

  • In your clear glass or bowl, add the rinsed rice.
  • Pour enough water to completely cover the rice.
  • Sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda over the rice.
  • Stir the mixture gently with a spoon to combine the ingredients.

Start the Dance

  • Slowly pour 1/2 cup of vinegar into the mixture.
  • Observe as the reaction begins and bubbles form, causing the rice to dance.

Enjoy the Show

  • Take a moment to observe the fascinating dance as the rice moves up and down.
  • Encourage participants to describe what they see and count how many times the rice dances.

Notes

You can make the experience vibrant by adding food coloring or experimenting with different grains. For even more fun, add edible glitter to the mixture.
