  • 1 cup uncooked rice Rinsed prior to the experiment
  • 1 cup water For mixing with rice
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda To create the bubbling reaction
  • 1/2 cup clear vinegar For the vigorous bubbling reaction
  • as needed food coloring Optional, for adding color
  • 1 spoon for stirring

Instructions
 

Prepare the Rice

  • Rinse the uncooked rice under cool water to remove excess starch.
  • In a clear container, combine the rinsed rice with 1 cup of water.

Create the Dancing Reaction

  • Stir in 1 tablespoon of baking soda into the mixture and observe the bubbling as carbon dioxide gas is released.
  • Slowly pour in 1/2 cup of clear vinegar to create a vigorous bubbling reaction.
  • Watch as the rice starts to 'dance' up and down in the bubbles.

Customize and Enjoy

  • Mix in a few drops of food coloring before the vinegar for vibrant hues.

Notes
