Ingredients

Materials

  • 5-7 pieces Coffee filters (white or colored) More layers create a fuller flower.
  • 1 piece Scissors Smooth, comfortable handles are best.
  • 1-2 pieces Pipe cleaners Green for stems or any color for a playful touch.
  • 1 piece Baking tray or large plate For drying the dyed filters.
  • As needed Food coloring or liquid watercolors Optional for adding color.
  • As needed cup Water Just enough to mix with dyes.
  • 1 piece Twine or ribbon To tie flowers together, if desired.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by stacking several coffee filters.
  • Cut a rounded shape around the edges of the stacked filters.
  • If desired, prepare a shallow bowl with water and food coloring. Dip the edges of your filters in the dye.
  • Allow the colored filters to dry on a tray or plate.
  • Once dry, carefully separate the layers and fluff them slightly.
  • Use a pipe cleaner to create the stem by gathering the base of the filters and wrapping the pipe cleaner around.
  • Tie a bow around the stem with twine or ribbon for a decorative touch.

Notes

Store coffee filter flowers in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading. A light spritz of air can refresh any accumulated dust, and consider re-dyeing if colors fade.
