DIY Crystal Snowflakes

Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1/2 cup Borax
  • 2 cups Boiling water
  • various colors Pipe cleaners For shaping the snowflakes
  • as needed String or fishing line For suspending the snowflake
  • 1 A jar or glass container
  • 1 Pencil or stick For suspending the snowflake
  • a few drops Food coloring Optional for colored crystals

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Take several pipe cleaners and twist them together to form a snowflake shape. Aim for a design with symmetrical arms.

Making the Crystal Solution

  • In a heatproof container, boil 2 cups of water.
  • Carefully mix in 1/2 cup of Borax until it dissolves completely.

Submerging the Snowflake

  • Tie the snowflake to a pencil or stick using a string.
  • Carefully lower the snowflake into the Borax solution, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom of the container.

Waiting for Crystals to Form

  • Leave the jar undisturbed for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  • Observe as crystals start to form around the pipe cleaner.

Removing and Drying

  • Once enough crystals have formed, remove the snowflake from the solution.
  • Gently rinse it under water and hang it to dry.

Notes

You can customize your snowflakes by experimenting with different shapes, sizes, and adding food coloring for colorful crystals. Store finished snowflakes in a cool, dry place.
