  • 2 pieces Clear glass jars or containers Choose the size based on desired lantern size.
  • 1 piece LED tealight candles Use for safe illumination.
  • 1 bottle Glow-in-the-dark paint or highlighter ink Glow-in-the-dark paint will give the best effect.
  • 1 piece Paintbrushes or sponges For applying paint.
  • 1 sheet Black construction paper For cutting out the wings.
  • Optional Googly eyes Enhance the whimsical look.
  • 1 piece Twine or ribbon For hanging the lanterns.
  • 1 piece Scissors To cut the wings and other materials.
  • To taste Water To rinse brushes.

Preparation

  • Start with clean glass jars, removing any labels.

Creating the Firefly Glow

  • Use a paintbrush or sponge to apply glow-in-the-dark paint inside the jar, ensuring even coverage for a bright glow.

Drying the Paint

  • Allow the paint to dry completely.

Making the Wings

  • Cut out wing shapes from black construction paper, varying sizes for fun.

Assembling the Fireflies

  • Attach the wings to the sides of the jar using glue or double-sided tape.
  • Stick on googly eyes if desired.

Inserting the Light

  • Place an LED tealight candle inside the jar and turn it on.

Notes

Customize lanterns with different colors of glow-in-the-dark paint. You can also add leaves or fairy lights for added charm and consider using scented candles inside for fragrance.
