  • 1 roll Clear contact paper Used as the main base for the suncatcher.
  • various colors Colored tissue paper Use different colors to create stunning designs.
  • 1 sheet Black construction paper For backing to enhance the suncatcher's appearance.
  • 1 piece Paper towel or soft cloth To keep your workspace clean.
  • 1 optional Ruler For precise measurements while cutting.

Preparation

  • Choose a clean, flat surface to work on.
  • Lay down a paper towel or soft cloth to catch any loose bits of tissue paper.

Creating Your Suncatcher

  • Cut a piece of clear contact paper to your desired size, typically around 12 x 12 inches.
  • On the non-sticky side of the contact paper, draw firework shapes using a pencil.
  • Tear the colored tissue paper into small pieces.
  • Place the tissue paper pieces randomly over your drawn design on the contact paper, leaving some gaps for a transparent effect.
  • Peel off the backing of the contact paper and place another piece over it to seal the colors inside.
  • Cut around the design, leaving a small border of the contact paper for stability.
  • Cut a piece of black construction paper slightly larger than your suncatcher and affix it on the back.
  • Tape or hang your suncatcher in a window to enjoy the light patterns.

Notes

Experiment with different color combinations and shapes for various effects. Consider adding glow-in-the-dark paint for nighttime fun.
