Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 bottle Clear plastic or glass bottle with a lid Ensure the bottle is clean and dry
  • 1 cup Water Fill the bottle about a quarter full
  • 1 cup Vegetable oil Pour until the bottle is almost full
  • a few drops Food coloring Choose your favorite colors
  • 1-2 tablets Alka-Seltzer tablets Or use baking soda mixed with vinegar
  • optional Glitter or small decorations For added sparkle and personalization

Preparation

  • Start with a clean, dry bottle.
  • Fill the bottle about one-quarter full with water.

Adding Ingredients

  • Slowly pour vegetable oil into the bottle until it’s almost full, leaving some space at the top.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to the bottle.
  • Watch as it sinks through the oil and mixes with the water beneath.

Creating Lava Effect

  • Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into pieces and drop them into the bottle.
  • If using baking soda, mix it with vinegar separately before adding to the lamp.
  • Enjoy the bubbling action as colorful blobs rise and fall!

Finalizing

  • Once the reaction subsides, securely fasten the bottle lid.
  • Find a cozy spot to display your DIY lava lamp and enjoy the calming visual.

Notes

Experiment with different food colorings for a rainbow effect. Use glitter or small decorations for added sparkle. Consider different shaped containers for unique designs. You can also make a smaller version for a cute desktop display.
