Ingredients
  

Lava Lamp Materials

  • 1 bottle or jar A clean, clear plastic bottle or glass jar with a lid Ensure it's clean and dry
  • 1/4 bottle Water Fill the bottle about one-quarter full
  • 1 bottle Vegetable oil Pour it in until nearly full
  • as desired drops Food coloring Use multiple colors for variety
  • 2-3 tablets Alka-Seltzer tablets (or vinegar and baking soda) For activation
  • optional Funnel For easier pouring
  • optional Glitter For extra sparkle

Preparation

  • Start with a clear bottle or jar—make sure it’s clean and dry.
  • Use a funnel if available for easier pouring.

Assembly

  • Fill the bottle about one-quarter full with water.
  • Slowly pour vegetable oil into the bottle until it’s nearly full, leaving some space at the top.
  • Drop in food coloring—get creative with colors and patterns.
  • Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into smaller pieces and drop them in one at a time to enjoy the bubbling action.
  • If desired, sprinkle some glitter for added charm.
  • Once satisfied, securely close the lid. Your lava lamp is ready to shine!

Notes

Experiment with different color combinations and bottle sizes. Always supervise young children while crafting, especially with small items like tablets. You can also mix vinegar and baking soda for a bubbling effect.
