Instructions

Preparation

  • Choose your desired colored or patterned paper.
  • Cut the paper to your preferred size; a good starting point is 12" x 6".

Marking and Cutting

  • Using a ruler and pencil, mark lines along the short side every 1 inch or so, stopping about an inch from the edge to create tabs.
  • Cut along the marked lines, ensuring not to cut all the way through.

Forming the Lantern

  • Gently roll the paper into a cylinder and secure the tabs together using glue or tape at the ends.
  • Make sure the tabs are sticking out to create the lantern's flared design.

Adding a Base

  • Cut a circle from a piece of paper to fit the bottom of your lantern.
  • Attach it securely to the bottom using glue.

Inserting Light Source

  • Place an LED tea light or battery-operated candle inside the lantern.

Optional – Add Hanging Accents

  • If you want to hang your lanterns, punch a hole at the top and thread a string or ribbon through.

Notes

Experiment with different paper types for unique textures. Use translucent paper for a soft glow. Decorate with stickers, washi tape, or drawings to personalize your lanterns further.
