Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • to taste drops food coloring (optional) Add to achieve desired color

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, measure out 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar. Mix these dry ingredients together thoroughly.
  • In a cooking pot, combine 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. If using, add a few drops of food coloring to the water mixture.

Cooking

  • Gradually add the dry mixture into the pot with wet ingredients while continuously stirring.
  • Place the pot over medium heat and keep stirring until the dough begins to thicken and pull away from the sides of the pot, about 3-5 minutes.

Kneading

  • Once thickened, transfer the dough onto a clean surface and allow it to cool slightly.
  • Knead the dough with your hands until smooth and elastic.

Storage

  • Place the play dough in an airtight container once it is cool.

Notes

For added fun, mix different colors together to create marbled play dough. You can also add essential oils for scent or include glitter and beads for decoration. Play dough can last several weeks if stored properly.
