Ingredients
  

Materials for Lava Lamp

  • 1 bottle Clear plastic or glass bottle (empty soda, water, or decorative bottle) Make sure it's clean and dry.
  • 1 cup Water To fill the bottle about one-quarter full.
  • 1 cup Vegetable oil To float above the water.
  • 5-10 drops Food coloring (your choice of colors) Customize according to preference.
  • 2 tablets Alka-Seltzer tablets You can use baking soda instead for a longer-lasting effect.
  • 1 Funnel (optional) For filling the bottle with water.
  • Decorative elements (glitter, small shiny beads, etc.) Optional, for added effect.

Preparation

  • Clean and dry your chosen bottle thoroughly to ensure no residue affects the aesthetics.

Assembly

  • Using the funnel, fill your bottle with water until it is about one-quarter full.
  • Add 5-10 drops of food coloring to the water and swirl gently to mix.
  • Slowly pour vegetable oil into the bottle, filling it almost to the top.
  • Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into smaller pieces and drop them into the bottle one at a time.
  • Observe the bubbling reaction as gas is released, creating the iconic lava lamp effect!

Notes

Customize colors, add sparkle with glitter, or try different bottle sizes for varying effects. Keep adult supervision during the activity.
