Craft Materials

  • various shapes and sizes Seashells Flat shells like clams or scallops work best.
  • 1 each Craft glue or hot glue gun For attaching materials.
  • some count Googly eyes For the crab's face.
  • 2-4 count Pipe cleaners For legs and antennae.
  • optional Paint For decoration.
  • 1 each Scissors For cutting materials.
  • optional Markers or crayons For additional decorations.
  • optional each Small brushes If using paint.

Crafting Steps

  • Choose a large shell for the main body of the crab, preferably a flat shell like a clam or a scallop.
  • Cut pipe cleaners into small segments (about 3-4 inches long) to create the crab's legs, typically needing 8 legs.
  • Bend the pipe cleaners into a 'V' shape to resemble crab legs.
  • Flip the shell over and apply a small amount of glue to the ends of the pipe cleaners, then stick them onto the shell's underside.
  • Glue googly eyes onto the front of the shell to create a face and add smaller shells or additional pipe cleaners for claws if desired.
  • Optionally paint the shell for added color or design, allowing it to dry completely before decorating further with markers.

Notes

Experiment with different types of shells and materials. Adult supervision is recommended for younger children. Create a themed underwater scene with various sea creatures.
