  • assorted colors Crayons Choose various crayon colors for brightness
  • 1 unit Grater or cheese shredder For shredding crayons
  • 1 unit Iron Use for melting the crayon shavings
  • 1 sheet Parchment paper To cover while ironing
  • 1 pair Scissors For cutting out your suncatcher shape
  • 1 template Heart-shaped template (optional) Use for guiding your suncatcher shape
  • 1 unit String or ribbon For hanging the finished suncatcher
  • 1 unit Hole punch (optional) To create a hole for hanging

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Start by covering your workspace with newspaper to catch any crayon shavings.

Crayon Shredding

  • Use the grater to shred your crayons into tiny pieces.
  • Enjoy the colors as you make a rainbow of shavings.

Arranging Crayon Shavings

  • Place a piece of wax paper on the newspaper.
  • Spread your crayon shavings in a heart shape (or any desired pattern) on the wax paper.
  • Aim for a mix of colors for some beautiful surprises.

Ironing

  • Place another piece of wax paper on top of the shavings.
  • Cover with parchment paper.
  • Turn the iron to low heat and gently iron over the parchment paper.
  • Listen for the crackling sound as the crayons melt together, fusing the layers.

Cutting Out Your Heart

  • Once cool, carefully peel back the wax paper.
  • Use scissors to cut out the heart shape (or any shape you desire) around your colorful design.
  • Feel the smooth texture of your suncatcher.

Creating a Hanger

  • If desired, use the hole punch to make a hole at the top.
  • Thread a string or ribbon through the hole for hanging.
