Easter-Themed Bird Feeders
Create whimsical egg-shaped bird feeders to celebrate Easter and nourish garden birds.
Ingredients
For the Bird Feeders
- 2 pieces empty plastic eggs or foam egg forms
- 2 cups birdseed (mixed seeds preferred)
- 1/2 cup peanut butter or vegetable shortening Ensure it's bird-safe.
- 1 piece twine or sturdy string
- optional paint and paintbrush For decoration.
- 1 piece scissors
- 1 piece funnel Optional for filling.
Instructions
Preparation
- If using plastic eggs, carefully open them and clean out any residual plastic or labels. If using foam forms, skip to the next step.
Making the Mixture
- In a bowl, mix birdseed with peanut butter or vegetable shortening until combined, ensuring the mixture is sticky enough to hold together when squeezed.
Filling the Egg Mold
- Use a funnel to fill each half of the egg with the birdseed mixture, packing it tightly.
Closing the Egg
- Reassemble the egg halves and use twine to tie them together securely.
Decorating (Optional)
- Paint the egg-shaped feeders in pastel colors or designs to celebrate Easter, allowing the paint to dry completely before hanging.
Hanging Your Feeder
- Create a loop at the top using the twine and hang it from a suitable branch in your garden.
