Crafting Materials

  • 1 cup cornstarch Easy to find at grocery stores
  • 0.5 cup water Tap water is just fine
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar Helps preserve the charm
  • 1 mixing bowl Mixing bowl Any size will do
  • 1 spoon Spoon or spatula For stirring
  • 1 baking sheet Baking sheet To let charms dry comfortably
  • 1 optional food coloring To add vibrancy to your creations

Instructions

Preparation

  • In your mixing bowl, combine cornstarch and water. Stir gently with a spoon or spatula until the mixture becomes smooth and forms a soft dough.
  • Once the dough is formed, add the tablespoon of vinegar to increase the longevity of your charms.
  • Dust a clean surface with cornstarch to prevent sticking. Turn the dough out and knead it gently until it feels soft and pliable, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Use your flower molds or hands to shape the dough into flower shapes, pressing the dough into molds or gently forming petals by hand.
  • Transfer your shaped flowers onto a baking sheet. Use a straw or toothpick if you want to create holes for hanging.
  • Leave the charms to dry at room temperature for at least 24 hours, flipping them halfway through.
  • If using food coloring, paint your flowers once they are dry for a burst of colors.

Notes

Store your charms in a cool, dry place. If they lose shape, gently reshape them with your hands. You can refresh their surface by lightly re-coating them with a mix of cornstarch and water.
