Ingredients

Materials

  • 5 pieces Coffee filters (white or brown) Both types work wonderfully.
  • 1 set Natural or watercolor paints Optional for coloring filters.
  • 1 piece Sturdy scissors Needed for cutting if desired.
  • 1 piece Floral wire or sticks Used for creating stems.
  • 1 piece Glue stick or craft glue For securing parts.
  • 1 piece Pencil Optional for detailing petals.
  • 1 set Decorative embellishments Such as beads or ribbon, optional.

Instructions

Creating the Peonies

  • Start by taking a coffee filter and gently flattening it out.
  • If you wish to add a touch of color, use your paint to create light washes across the filter. Let your paintbrush dance with fluid strokes and notice how the colors spread and blend. Set the filters aside to dry.
  • Once dry, stack 3-5 filters together. This layer will add fullness to your flower.
  • Pinch the center of your stacked filters to create a bundle.
  • Twist the bottom of the bundle to form the base of the flower, securing it with floral wire.
  • Gently separate each layer of the filters, ruffling them up.
  • If you choose to, you can attach your flower to a stick or wire.
  • Consider adding decorative touches, like tying a ribbon around the base or gluing on beads.

Notes

Your peonies can be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. They can also be refreshed for different occasions by adding new colors or designs.
