For the Cake

  • 2 boxes cake mix (vanilla or any preferred flavor)
  • 4 pieces eggs for the cake mix
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for the cake mix
  • 1 cup water for the cake mix
  • Food coloring (blue, green, purple) for coloring the batter

For the Frosting

  • 3 sticks butter for frosting
  • 6 cups powdered sugar for frosting
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for frosting

For Decoration

  • Edible glitter for decoration
  • Seashell and starfish cake toppers optional
  • Cake board or serving platter

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix until smooth.
  • Add Color: Divide the batter into three bowls. Add a few drops of different food coloring to each bowl to create ocean-inspired colors (blue, green, and purple).

Baking the Layers

  • Grease and Pour: Grease the cake pans, pour in the colored batters, layering them for a marbled effect.
  • Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely.

Making the Frosting

  • Cream Butter: In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and vanilla extract.
  • Add Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar until you reach a fluffy consistency. If too thick, add a spoonful of milk.

Assembling the Cake

  • Layer the Cake: Place one layer of cake on the cake board, spread frosting on top. Repeat with the other layers.
  • Frost the Outside: Apply a thin crumb coat around the entire cake, refrigerate for 30 minutes, then frost the outside with a thicker layer.

Decorating

  • Add Texture: Use a spatula to create waves in the frosting.
  • Sprinkle Edible Glitter: Dust with edible glitter for a magical ocean effect.
  • Top with Decor: Place your seashell and starfish decorations on the top.

Notes

Flavor Variations: Experiment with different flavored cake mixes, like lemon or chocolate. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free cake mix. For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with dairy-free alternatives and use a dairy-free cake mix. Adding fresh fruits between layers can add a refreshing twist.
