Preparation

  • Clear a large area in your kitchen and gather all materials for easy access.

Combine Ingredients

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water, and corn syrup.
  • Stir gently over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.

Heat the Mixture

  • Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan.
  • Continue to heat without stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  • Watch for bubbling and a slight change in color as it heats.

Add Color and Flavor (Optional)

  • Once at temperature, remove from heat.
  • If desired, stir in food coloring and flavor extracts for a personal touch.
  • Mix until the color is uniform and vibrant.

Pour and Cool

  • Carefully pour the hot mixture onto the greased baking sheet.
  • Spread evenly to your desired thickness.
  • Allow it to cool completely at room temperature.
