Instructions

Preparation

  • Start with a clean, dry egg carton. Depending on your design, you can use the whole carton or cut it into individual sections representing train cars.
  • Use scissors to cut out the desired number of train cars from the egg carton. Be careful with the scissors if children are handling them.

Painting

  • Grab the acrylic or tempera paint and a paintbrush. Let your kids paint the outside of the egg carton pieces in their favorite colors.
  • Encourage them to explore different patterns and designs.

Assembly

  • For wheels, glue pipe cleaners or buttons to the bottom of each train car. Make sure they’re secure so the train can roll!
  • Use googly eyes, craft paper, and markers to add faces, windows, and fun details to the train. Get creative!

Playtime

  • Once everything is dry, encourage your kids to engage in play with their new egg carton train.
  • They can create stories and adventures as they run their little train around.

Notes

Customize colors to allow kids to mix shades. Consider using different materials for wheels and making a train station for additional play. The craft is suitable for ages 4 and up, and younger children may require assistance with scissors and glue.
