Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 6 pieces Empty eggshells (cleaned and dried) Make sure the shells are thoroughly cleaned and dried.
  • 1 cup Epsom salt or sugar Epsom salt or sugar works best for crystal growth.
  • various drops Food coloring Choose a variety of colors for vibrant effects.
  • 1 cup Water Room temperature water is ideal.
  • 2 pieces Small bowls For mixing the crystal solution.
  • 1 piece Toothpicks or craft sticks To remove excess solution.
  • 1 piece Baking sheet or tray For holding the filled eggs.
  • 1 piece Wax paper Optional, helps catch spills.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Carefully crack open the eggs and rinse the shells, removing any residual egg.
  • Set the shells upside down to dry completely.

Making the Crystal Solution

  • In a small bowl, mix 1 cup of water with 1 cup of Epsom salt or sugar.
  • Stir until dissolved.
  • Add a few drops of your chosen food coloring to create vibrant hues.

Filling the Eggshells

  • Pour the crystal solution into the eggshells, filling them about three-quarters full.
  • Place the shells on a baking sheet or tray lined with wax paper to catch any spills.

Crystallization

  • Allow the filled eggs to sit undisturbed for 24-48 hours to let the crystals form.
  • Check for growth; you might see beautiful formations starting to appear!

Final Touches

  • Once the crystals reach your desired size, gently remove the shells from the tray.
  • You can use toothpicks or craft sticks to scrape away any excess solution for a clean finish.

Notes

Get creative with color mixing by layering different colors. Use different egg sizes for varied effects or add glitter for extra sparkle. Display your geodes in a decorative bowl for an impressive centerpiece.
