Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Empty plastic bottles (such as soda or water bottles)
  • 1-2 pieces LED tea lights or glow sticks For lighting
  • 1 can Paint (acrylic or spray) For decorating your firefly
  • 1 brush Paintbrushes (if using acrylic paint) For applying the paint
  • 1 piece Scissors For cutting the bottles
  • 1 tube Craft glue or hot glue gun For securing parts together
  • 1 piece Wire or string For hanging the firefly
  • optional Decorations like glitter, fabric, or stickers For additional embellishment

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Rinse and thoroughly clean your plastic bottles.
  • Remove any labels and ensure they’re dry.

Cut the Bottles

  • Use scissors to cut the bottle about one-third from the bottom.
  • Keep the top part for later use as a cover.

Paint Your Fireflies

  • Use brushes to paint the outside of the bottom bottle section.
  • Create a base color and let it dry.
  • Add details (like eyes or patterns) with different colors.

Add the Light Source

  • Place the LED tea light or a glow stick inside the painted bottle section.
  • For a tea light, ensure the flame is secured if using too.

Assemble the Firefly

  • Place the top half of the bottle back onto the bottom.
  • Use craft glue or hot glue to secure if desired.

Hang or Display

  • Attach wire or string if you want to hang your firefly.
  • Position them in your garden, porch, or inside your home.

Notes

Swap paint for washi tape or colored markers for a dynamic pattern. Use embellishments like fabric wings made from old clothes. Experiment with various bottle shapes and sizes for unique designs.
