  • 1 jar Clear glass jar or container
  • 3/4 cup Water Fill the jar about three-quarters full.
  • 2 tablespoons Cooking oil (vegetable or canola) Should float on top of the water.
  • As needed Food coloring (various colors) Use a dropper or spoon to add.
  • Optional Glitter or small star confetti For extra sparkle.

Preparation

  • Fill your clear jar about three-quarters full with water. Observe the clarity of the water.
  • In a separate small bowl or cup, pour in about two tablespoons of cooking oil. Observe that oil floats on top of the water.

Color Creation

  • Use a dropper or spoon to add drops of food coloring into the oil.
  • Observe as the colors float and form beautiful round shapes.

Combining

  • Carefully spoon the oil and food coloring mixture into the jar filled with water.
  • Watch the brilliant display as the colors disperse and create firework-like patterns.

Final Touch

  • If desired, sprinkle in some glitter or star confetti to elevate the magical effect.
