Preparation

  • Fill the jar about three-quarters full with warm water.
  • Slowly pour vegetable oil into the jar until it’s nearly full.

Creating the Fireworks

  • Using a dropper or spoon, add several drops of food coloring to the surface of the oil.
  • Observe how the food coloring forms small droplets that slowly sink into the water.

Enjoying the Show

  • Observe the fascinating process as the colors swirl and mix in the water.
  • Repeat the process by adding more drops of food coloring for additional bursts of color.

Notes
