  • 1 jar Clear jar or glass Fill three-quarters full with water.
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil Best choice for density.
  • a few drops Food coloring (various colors) Choose different colors for variety.

Preparation

  • Fill your clear jar three-quarters full with water to create the base for your fireworks display.
  • In a small bowl, add about two tablespoons of vegetable oil.
  • Choose your food coloring colors and add several drops to the oil. The colors won't mix; they will float.

Creating the Fireworks

  • Gently stir the oil and food coloring mix with a spoon. Observe how the colors break apart, creating vivid drops.
  • Slowly pour the oil mixture into the jar filled with water. Watch as the colors sink and spread, mimicking fireworks!

Notes

Experiment with different colors, use sparkling water for fizz, or add glitter for extra sparkle. Clean up spills with soap and water, as the mixture is non-toxic and safe.
