Ingredients

Materials

  • 1 piece White or light-colored cardstock or watercolor paper A good base for painting
  • 3-5 containers Liquid watercolors or washable paints Different colors for creating bursts
  • 1 pack Straws (preferably sturdy) Sturdy straws help create better splatters
  • 2 pieces Small containers for paint (like plastic cups) To hold your different paint colors
  • 1 cup Water For rinsing straws between colors
  • 1 piece Paper towels For cleaning up spills
  • 1 optional Glitter For added sparkle

Instructions

Preparation

  • Find a flat surface to work on and cover it with newspaper or an old tablecloth.
  • Gather all your materials to have them within easy reach.

Painting

  • Pour a small amount of different liquid watercolors or washable paints into the small containers.
  • Dip the end of a straw into the paint, coating it well.
  • Place your paper in front of you, then hold the straw near (but not touching) the surface.
  • Blow through the straw quickly to make the paint splatter out and create bursts of color resembling fireworks.

Layering

  • Try using different colors for a multi-colored explosion.
  • After blowing out the first color, go back for additional layers with other colors to enhance the design.

Finishing Up

  • Once satisfied, set aside your artwork and let it dry completely.
  • If desired, sprinkle glitter on top before it's fully dry for added sparkle.

Notes

Feel free to mix colors in the containers for unique shades. Substitute other blowing tools if necessary. Use thicker paper for different textures or create a collage with cut-out shapes.
